The Visual Art Exhibition is the corner stone of the Festival, creating a lush atmosphere that invites attendees to ponder the erotic. The jury will select pieces based on: quality of execution, depth of emotion, originality of subject, and thought-provoking elements that ignite conversations about sexuality, erotica, art, and/or societal mores. The Festival sells more art than any other erotic art festival, consistently selling an average of 25% of the work featured in the exhibition. The Festival stands by its mission to support living artists with low submission fees and competitive commission rates. All exhibiting and invited artists are also encouraged to sell their work in the popular Festival Store.

Created in 2009 to highlight writing and other literary works as an important expressive and legitimate art form, the Literary Art Exhibition was the first of its kind at any erotic art festival. The Seattle Erotic Art Festival is proud to present featured literary work from short story authors, poets, and playwrights from all around the world! This year jury selected literary works will be exhibited via intimate live readings, personal audio recordings to stimulate you aurally and of course the coveted annual printed anthology. Exhibited works will be on display throughout the event for thousands of attendees to experience and immerse themselves in. The anthology will remain available for purchase year-round.

Interactive Installations

Interactive installation art is extremely popular at the Seattle Erotic Art Festival, and artists enjoy significant notoriety as a result of media and audience reviews. We are seeking work that encourages the audience to become part of the art, that creates a memorable Festival experience, and that is physically, emotionally and creatively stimulating. The Festival is proud to continue to offer our grant for interactive visual artists. Some artists will be granted up to $300 to create works of art that feature a participatory element

The extremely popular Festival Store is a museum-quality shop that features thousands of works of erotica selected to meet every budget and taste. The Store includes prints, small works, jewelry, cards, books, DVDs, collectibles, and more. The Store provides a venue for the sale of reproductions of original works of art featured in the exhibition, increasing exposure and monetary benefits for participating artists. It also features the work of artists that are not showcased in the exhibition. All accepted artists have their work displayed during the weekend event to thousands of attendees.

Performance

The Seattle Erotic Art Festival facilitates many unique platforms for performance art, from staged performances to smaller, more intimate showcases to roving and immersive performances. In particular this year, the Festival invites interactive projects, short stage performances, and “pop-up” ambient performances. Preference is given to art that is edgy and risky in content; this is not the place to “play it safe.” Attendees come to the Festival to see and experience art they can’t normally get access to in Seattle; preference is given to new or underrepresented works.  All performers will be compensated.  Compensation is varied and negotiable.

NOTE: Performance Art submissions do not require a fee and close on February 22, 2016 at 11pm PDT.
