Performance Artists, We’re Looking For You!

Well hello there, performers. Did you know, the Seattle Erotic Art Festival is looking for you? Whether you’re a decadent dancer, alluring acrobat, mesmerizing musician, or any other lover of the spotlight; we want you…immensely. The #SEAF2017 Call for Art is currently open, and we’re accepting proposals for staged performances or ambient/roaming performances. New and experienced performers can apply! Accepted performers have the opportunity to perform for thousands of happy attendees and receive compensation. Learn more about the differences between stage and ambient performances, then submit your proposal today!

Ambient Performance Art

What is Ambient Performance Art?

Ambient performance at SEAF is interactive art that breaks the 4th wall by using the entirety of the festival space as the stage. Ambient performers engage directly with our guests, creating an immersive environment. Performances “roam” around the event, making use of cozy corners as well as busy passageways to create improvised, intimate, hyperlocal experiences. We delight and challenge festival goers by weaving stories, expressing ideas, and inviting engagement.

As an ambient performance artist, you not only stimulate attendees to contemplate and appreciate the erotic; you embody the erotic. Roaming performances spin an energetic web of art around the entire event, invoking fresh perspectives and contemplations, and moving attendees to communicate with friends and lovers about desires, consent, questions and nuances of their experience.

Ambient performance can include dance, movement, improv, spoken word art, acoustic music, singing, pure silence, visual art, clever props, technology, costuming, body art, drawing, and many other forms of expression. Amplified sound is generally not accessible for ambient performances. When preparing your proposal, keep in mind singing, spoken word, and instrumental performances can be very challenging to hear in this environment; these would need to be truly “hyperlocal” experiences. Identify and communicate any technical needs (sound, lighting) as early as possible to work out reasonable solutions.

You may have an erotic performance in mind that you envision as a stand-alone piece. As an ambient performer, we encourage you to re-imagine it as a performance you deliver in parts as you move from one place to another, embodying a character or a story as you roam. You draw people in, they follow you; they can’t wait to see what happens next– We will workshop promising proposals with you to ensure a cohesive and complete ambient experience.

Ready to submit? Our For Artists section includes all the information you’ll need to submit your ambient art proposal. Once you have all the information, submit your proposal in our Artist Portal. There is no fee to submit performance art.

Stage Performance Art

What is Stage Performance Art?

Your performance is an erotic, stand-alone piece on a stage/raised platform with one or more performers included. While audience participation can be involved, your performance remains in one particular space or location; it is not roaming or ambient in nature. Our attendees come to the Festival to see and experience art they can’t normally access in Seattle; SEAF gives preference to new or underrepresented works.

Stage performances can include dance, movement, burlesque, spoken word art, music/singing, and many other forms of expression. Stage performers will have access to lighting and amplified sound; include your performance needs in the proposal.

As you put together a proposal, try to address performance theme, mood, subject matter, performance format, duration, number of performers, costuming, props/sets used (and whether you’ll be able to provide them), technologies (sound, lighting, etc.), and any other supporting materials that will assist us in envisioning your art. A complete list of items to include in your proposal is found in the For Artists section of our site.

Performers submitting proposals may be asked to audition (date/location TBA), and all performers are compensated for their time. Submit your Stage Performance proposal in our Artist Portal.

Dazzle our attendees with your delightfully erotic performances… We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
