SEAF: Late Night

After the lectures and performances are done, we shift gears to create a night club vibe within the festival. SEAF Late Night is when we invite the go-go dancers and flow artists to take the stage while the DJs lure you on to the dance floor. This year, our Director of Sound created a 6-point-surround-sound dance floor- sexophonic sound! We are also excited to welcome Marcell Marias, a multi-media artist who is bringing video projection mapping to SEAF’s dance floor, providing a sumptuously lighted space for your dancing pleasure.

A Special Late Night Only Ticket

For those of you who can’t join the festival’s frivolity until later in the evening, we created the Late Night Only ticket. This ticket allows entry to the festival starting at 9:30pm on Friday, April 21st or Saturday, April 22nd. Sure, you will miss the main stage performance showcases, but the lights never go out on the visual and interactive art, and the ambient performances around the festival. And we have a drink special that doesn’t start until 10pm, just for you. Ask your friendly bartenders for details.

Meet the DJs

Julie Herrera – Saturday 11:30pm-1:00am

A California native raised in Seattle from the age of 13, Julie Herrera considers the NorthWest home and Seattle takes pride in claiming her as their own. Music has always been a source of inspiration for Julie. Her older sibling’s collection of 70’s and 80’s soul, disco and R&B records, coupled with her own tastes for new wave and dance artists of the 80’s set the foundation for her future in music.

In the early 90’s Julie was instinctively drawn to Seattle’s underground dance music culture. With her passion for the art of DJing, a ferocious appetite for varied styles of music and unbridled soulful style — once Julie took to the decks in 1996, she quickly made waves. Her residencies with the Hitgirl Collective and HotBox shows had an important and long-lasting impact for her as an artist and the Seattle nightlife community, elevating herself and a host of other emerging female talent at the time.

With a career now past the 20 year mark, Julie is active as ever, holding down residencies with revered and respected crews such as Flammable, Noise Complaint, Hitgirl! and one half of the beloved WonderTwinz.

Julie’s ability to take you on a journey from classic to modern house and techno stylings, tech-house, disco, Latin  and afrobeat is unmatched! A true artist with a captivating presence both as a DJ and performer, she is as much fun to hear as she is to watch. Beat by beat, Julie will leave you with an electrifying, soulful and uplifting dancefloor experience.

Haaps – Friday 10:30pm-midnight

TheMidnightSons / Broken Grooves

One of Seattle’s breakbeat godfathers, DJ Haaps’ career started in 1996 blending sounds from a CD player and a belt drive turntable using a radio shack mixer. With proper equipment, the simple beginnings immediately gave way to active bookings as one of the original residents of Broken Grooves (the longest running breakbeat weekly in the world).  Having played throughout the USA and having had long running residencies in D.C., Baltimore, Seattle and San Diego, his sound and stage presence have been appreciated by a broad range of audiences. His last tour around the world, included shows at the renowned Full Moon beach party in Thailand; Herbal in London; and multiple D&B shows in Barcelona.

diem – Saturday 10:30pm-11:30pm

The scene: San Diego in 1993. diem moved to the beach haven after living in Australia for a year. House music was a relative newcomer to San Diego, and the beach and rock vibe would have diem rocking Richard Humpty Vission tracks the same night as AC/DC and Jimmy Buffet. That time was very influential and why he loves playing pretty much anything that gets him and the crowd dancing and smiling. diem is known for dancing behind the decks and joining the crowd mid-set.

He resides in the PNW, having called Seattle home since 2001. He has performed in clubs and at festivals across the US, Canada, Hawaii, and Mexico. He defines his sound as “hardtribaldisco”, which is a blend of tribal Latin rhythms, hard funk, house beats, and breaks, to become the layered evil disco that gets everyone’s booty moving. This November will be his 30th year performing, so be sure to check him out and bring your boogie shoes! Keep track of diem at facebook.com/diemdj and djdiem.com.
